Additional Coaching Information

Definitions:

Recreational Teams - teams that participate in the GLSL or soccer school
Competitive and Select Teams - teams that participate in the OCSL, ERSL Regional and MJDL, and OYSL

Each competitive / select team must have one designated Team Head Coach. Only one person can be selected as the Team Head Coach. All other team personnel will be named as Assistant Coaches, Managers or Trainers.

Minimum Criteria for ALL coaches:

Note: If the club does not receive applications from coaches meeting ALL of the minimum requirements, the club reserves the right to solicit additional coaching applicants.
  • All coaches must apply to coach with the club by filling out the Coach Application Form annually.
  • All coaches must submit a completed Police Record Check application. Police Record Checks will be valid for 4 years.
Minimum Criteria for Recreational Teams:
  • Soccer School does not require designated Team Head Coaches.
  • U8 and above must have a designated Team Head Coach.
  • All coaches must have their Youth Level 1 Certification by the U8 age level.
  • All coaches must have their Youth Level 2 Certification by the U10 age level.
  • All coaches must have their Senior Community Certification by the U12 age level.
Additional requirements for Competitive Teams:
  • All Team Head Coaches must have their Senior Community Coaching Certificate.
  • Each team must have a minimum of one Assistant Coach.
  • All Assistant Coaches must also have their Senior Community Coaching Certificate.
  • New coaches to the club must also provide references from their previous club that they coached at.
  • The following are strong club recommendations, not OSA requirements:
A member of the team coaching or management staff should have sports first aid training.
All coaches have their Theory Level 1 Certification by the U11 age level.
All coaches have their Theory Level 2 Certification by the U13 age level.

Additional requirements for Regional Teams:
  • Coaches applying for the Regional level or higher should have previous playing experience.
  • t is recommended that a parent of one of the players also have sports first aid training.
  • All coaches should have completed the OSA Advanced Coaching Course. Preference will be given to coaches who have attended or passed the OSA Pre-B Assessment Course.
Number of teams a coach can participate with:

A coach can only be the Team Head Coach of one team unless exceptional circumstances arise.
These circumstances include:
  • Folding the team is not acceptable
  • All possible recruitment options for coaches have failed
