Soccer School

The emphasis of the Soccer School program is on developing soccer skills, developing social skills and having fun. We don't keep scores and there are no team standings.

Soccer school is offered in each of Stittsville, Richmond and Munster. Players attend once per week for an hour. The program allows the children to grow in skills using a wide range of activities each year from U4/U5 (basic ball-control and passing skills in a fun context) through to U7 (individual skills, team skills, followed by a short scrimmage against another team). As the players get older we introduce larger field sizes, more players on the field and for the U7s referees. To keep the players focus on skills there will not be goalies used in the U7 games.

The teams are made up of approximately 12 players with a strict cap of 14. We have as many coaches as we can get on a team. We need parents to coach or we do not have a program. No experience in soccer is necessary, as a parent you have proven you have what it takes! We will teach you all the soccer you need to know using hands on techniques along with coaching clinics paid for by the club.

U4, U5, U6 players are provided a Tim Bits jersey and U7 players are provided a McDonalds jersey which they may keep at the end of the season. You must provide shorts, shin pads (mandatory) and soccer socks. Soccer cleats are optional but if you elect not to use them we recommend a good running shoe.

The season starts at the end of May and goes through the middle of August. Exact dates will be put on the web site once the city finalizes our field request. We finish the season with a Fun Day in August at which time everyone gets a trophy/medal. There are no games on the long weekends in July and August.

Stittsville: Supports U4-U7 age levels. U4 and U5 are mixed-gender while U6 and U7 are separated into male and female teams (depending on the total number of registrations at those ages). U4 and U5 players indicate a preference for Satuday morning or Sunday evening. U6 and U7 players will only be playing on Saturday morning. Once assigned to a team, the player will be with the same team, same time and same day for the duration of the season.

Richmond: Supports U4-U7 age levels.

Munster: Supports U4-U7 age levels. U7 program is being held in Richmond on Thursday evenings. U4-U6 players are at a single site in Munster. Families with a U7 child playing Thursdays have the option of registering younger siblings for that same evening.

When does the season start?

We are waiting final word on field availability but normally the season starts the last weekend in May or the first weekend in June. The web site will be updated when the information has been made final.

Are there games on holiday weekends?

No. We do not play on the Canada Day and Civic Holiday weekends.

My child is much smaller than his/her peers. Can they play down at a lower age level?

This is not permitted in all but the most exceptional circumstances. Please contact the Soccer School Coordinator for additional information.

Why do you run the program on weekends?

Goulbourn Soccer Club does not have enough soccer fields and as a result we have to use the fields on weekends to support the tremendous demand. We encourage you to express your concerns to your local elected representatives.

Can I drop my child off and pick them up at the end of the practice?

NO!! The team coaches are responsible for the entire team. In the event that a player gets injured, there must be an individual present who can take care of them. This is very strictly enforced.
